I have to admit that when I think about the prophets in the Bible, "normal" is not the first word that comes to mind.
This week in Extraordinary Normal, we are going to talk about Elijah. Elijah certainly did a lot of extraordinary things. Think about it, Elijah is called upon by God to inform the king that because of his wickedness there will be drought in the land until Elijah comes back and lets him know that the drought will end. He then goes and lives by a creek that God directs him to and he is fed by birds. He leaves there and goes to live in a town that the evil queen is from and is cared for by a widow whose son Elijah brings back to life. Later he returns and faces prophets of Baal in a "showdown" of sorts and proves that God is the One True God. Then he finally informs the king that God is now sending rain and that the king should prepare accordingly.
Yeah, none of that fits into a "normal" day in the life of me. But there are many things in this story that I can relate to.
I can relate to relying on God to provide for me. I can relate to having to stand up for what I believe in to someone who has authority over me. I can relate to feeling like God has sent me to a place that it doesn't make sense for me to be.
How about you? Take some time this week to read Elijah's story 1 Kings 17-21 and 2 Kings 1-2 and see for yourself what you find extraordinary and what you find that you can relate to.
